MORE Artworks Now Available at the SHOP!

DonSuratosARTphoto

10 days after I opened my Online ART SHOP, I finally got some orders ( Woot woot )! I am working on a handful of commissioned artworks at the moment, which will also be available at the shop soon! I also asked the nearest ( KODAK ) Photo Printing Shop, regarding prices for the poster sizes yesterday. Finally, I changed the look of all my SocMed accounts to match these black and white framed artworks. I plan to print some of my own artworks, have them framed and put them all over a plain white wall here at home. Should look great!

After the visit at the printing shop yesterday, I was glad the the cost for printing large formats ( 12R to 30 x 20 ) posters, do not cost a fortune! A 30 x 20 costs exactly 20usd to print on matte paper. Not bad! I won't be adding cost to the printing, will just charge them as is, to keep the posters reasonably priced.

All 8R ( 8 x 10 ) standard artworks are now available in 12R ( 12 x 15 ) digital prints too! Posters will be available from 12R to 30 x 20. I want to keep the printing and shipping cost at reasonable prices, thus I won't offer bigger sized posters.

Anyways, do check out the shop at the link below. Hope you find something you fancy! Thanks as always for dropping by! Until next post guys! CIAO!

Eiffel Extravaganza at Kickstarter

Eiffel Extravaganza at Kickstarter photo

Do check out the Eiffel Extravaganza at Kickstarter at the link below...

Eiffel Extravaganza, 1896 starts with a collection of fine lasercut scenery sets for tabletop miniature games. Sets are in 30 mm scale so they suit perfectly with the major skirmish and wargames in stores now like Malifaux, Mordheim, Deadzone, Warmachine, Wild West Exodus, Guild Ball, Infinity, Confrontation and again: In Wolsung, Twisted, Empire of the Deadso on.
With your support, Eiffel Extravaganza will become a campaign pack with dedicated miniatures, background and missions. Scenery and Models will have general statistics such as movement, switches, and particular events etc. which can be adapted to the ruleset of your preference.  In future, it could even evolve into board-games, card games and other lasercut scenery sets!
I will be producing the ARTWORKS for this project. It will all be in Pen and Ink rendition that would perfectly match the 1896 theme of the pieces. The artworks will look like etchings of sorts. We hope for your support with this project! I will be sharing my sketches for this project my @donsuratos accounts Twitter and Instagram, and at my Facebook page @DonSuratosArtist .
Thanks as always for dropping by! Please help us share the word! CIAO!

Custom Made Drawing Table!

Custom Made Drawing Tablephoto

I just woke up, I figured I'd blog a bit before resuming work on some drawings today.

My dad crafted 30 Drawing Tables for a school a while back. He loves accepting projects in carpentry, metal stuff and whatever craft you could think of. Dad also cooks! He celebrated his 68th Birthday a couple of days ago. The old man is still rocking at his age. There were a couple of unfinished drawing tables at his cave. Figured I'd asked for one of them.

These are photos of my old man working on my custom made drawing table. It's huge! Made of solid "kiln dry" high quality wood. This table should serve me well for the rest of my drawing life.

The drawing table measures 42 inches x 31 inches. The glass area at the middle of the table measures 32 inches by 21 inches. It is huge stuff! Huge specially for the usual size of the drawings that I do. This table is perfect for one of the drawing / illustration project, that I will be doing next month! Stay tuned guys! Will work on an epic sized ART soon!

Anyways, Thanks as always for dropping by! Until next post! CIAO!

More Digital Prints Added to the SHOP!

More Digital Prints Added to the SHOP Photo

Just added more illustrations to the ONLINE SHOP today! There are a total of 18 illustrations available as 8 x 10 inch prints as of this writing. Will look to expand the selection as I finish more pieces and depending on the demand.

I have yet to entertain customers at the shop as of today, but I nailed a couple of original drawing commissions, and a huge epic painting since yesterday. Will be posting finished pieces here soon. The huge painting commission should be fun! I will start work on that epic painting / war scene of sorts commission at the end of the month. The digital print version of that 20 x 24 inch painting will also be sold at the ONLINE SHOP once done!

I am also currently working on a series ( 12 characters ) of Character Designs for an upcoming Board Game. Will update you once I have inked my pencil sketches for them.

Anyways, thanks as always for dropping by! Until next post guys! CIAO!

Painting Base Colors in Batches

Painting Base Colors in Batches Photo

As I've said in my last post, I love priming miniatures in batches! I think it saves me time and paint. Painting miniatures in batches is more efficient as you get to setup your airbrush and mix paints in one sitting. I just feel It is more efficient than painting in smaller batches or individually.

I base color small and big models with my Harden & Steenbeck airbrush. I always prime and paint with Vallejos! A drop of Vallejo Paint Retarder before shooting a well thinned Vallejo is all it takes, to make sure you airbrush with ease. I shoot as low as 10psi when shading and 15 to 20psi when shooting the base colors.

Thinning Vallejos depends on the color. Light colors like Yellows, Oranges and Light Greens need very little thinning. Thick colors like Blues, some Reds, Browns and Grays need more thinning. I am not a ratio person, I lick and taste the paint to know that my mix is perfect for airbrushing. Kidding aside, a nice skim milk consistency ( as cliche as it may sound ) is usually perfect.

Overly thinned paint will splatter all over the model. Thick poorly thinned paint might clog your airbrush or give you a sandy texture. Too much Vallejo Retarder will be wet forever, and NO retarders might dry in mid air ( depending on color ) and also give you a sandy texture. Practice and Experience is KEY.

These models are ready for detailing! I had so much fun airbrushing them. I gave them a nice coat of Vallejo Premium Gloss Coat! Vallejo Premium paints are paints used for motorcycle helmets, RC cars and Guitars. Needless to say, a fully cured ( 3 days ) layer of Vallejo Premium Gloss Coat, would be very strong enough for play and handling.

I will need to shoot a nice thin coat of Vallejo matte varnish, once I decide to hand paint the details. The matte varnish will give the models teeth for the hand painting to cling on. Until then, will play with these glossy models with my son.

I hope you found this post informative. Thanks as always for dropping by! Until next post guys! CIAO!
